Structure and Governance

Occupational health and safety management system

We have established a Central Safety and Health Committee to continuously improve the level of safety and health management at each of our business sites, including our subsidiaries. In addition, each center has also established respective safety and health committee, which formulates a safety and health management activity plan each fiscal year, submits the plan to the Labor Standards Management Bureau within their jurisdiction, and implements activities based on the plan.

Risk assessment

We conduct risk assessments at each of our business site whenever changes occur, such as occasions when new work is added, new machinery or equipment is introduced, or work procedures are changed. If it is determined that countermeasures are necessary based on the results of the assessment, we strive to prevent occupational accidents before they occur by taking countermeasures in advance and then providing education to employees involved in the work.

Main initiatives

Risk assessment

Each workplace conducts risk assessments and the results are discussed at monthly meetings of the Health and Safety Committee, leading to improvements to prevent occupational accidents. The secretariat of the Central Safety and Health Committee also participates in the Health and Safety Committee meetings at each workplace, providing advice and guidance as needed.

Safety patrol

In order to identify potential hazards in our workplaces, we strive to reduce unsafe actions and unsafe conditions in a way in which the Central Safety and Health Committee takes the lead in patrolling each business site and making improvements to machinery and equipment, work methods and others based on the results.

In addition, we also horizontally disseminate the results of safety patrols to other business sites to improve the level of safety management throughout the company.

Hazard prediction training

In order to increase employees’ sensitivity to recognize hazards as hazards, we strive to enhance the level of awareness of each and every employee by using pictures and drawings at each of our business site, providing our employees with training to predict apparent and potential hazards, and promoting the sharing of information among them.

Moreover, we strive to prevent occupational accidents before they occur by pointing and calling out when crossing aisles or at places where there are steps in our business sites.

5-S Principles

In order to make our workplaces safer places, enhance our work quality and productivity, and improve the atmosphere of our workplaces, we conduct our activities based on the 5S principles of “Seiri (sorting), Seiton (setting in order), Seisou (cleaning), Seiketsu (keeping clean), and Shitsuke (disciplining)” at each of our workplaces.

We believe that we can detect the signs of danger as quickly as possible and prevent occupational accidents before they occur by maintaining and sustaining a work environment in which the 5S principles are well practiced.

Health management activities

We strive to grasp the health conditions of our employees and undertake initiatives that pay attention to the health management of our employees, such as interviews with industrial physicians for those who wish to receive such interviews.

We subsidize the cost of optional medical checkups if employees wish to undergo preventive checkups for diseases, such as lifestyle-related and diseases, in addition to the legally required medical checkups and stress checks. In addition, we also subsidize a portion of the cost for complete medical checkups if employees wish to undergo complete medical checkups, instead of regular medical checkups. In this way, we encourage our employees to undergo medical checkups (however, there are regulations regarding matters such as eligible persons and institutions where they are to receive medical checkups).

Moreover, we also subsidize the cost of influenza vaccinations for our employees, as a countermeasure against infectious diseases.
